It begins with a dream of success. A mark of achievement and all the luxury items that go with the status quo. Such items include a big house, fancy cars, and a pool. That big house has a lawn, landscape, a drive way, fence and sprinkler system. I know what you are thinking, you do not own any of this and so what is the secret?
The secret is the people who own everything described above will need it maintained. At first they will want everything perfect. Big green hedges to provide privacy. A lawn to rival the neighbors and so on. Even if in the beginning the home owners can maintain it eventually they will need help. This is because the big house will need the trim painted. The windows caulked. The gutters cleaned and the deck, driveway and side pressure washed.
The hedges will need to be cut. The lawn will need to be mowed and the flower beds will need to be cleaned out yearly, weeded, and mulched. The same home owner who bought this large house will pay you to do what they either can’t do or do not want to do.
Every bit of what I mentioned above is a side hustle all by itself. What I have not metioned is that they will pay for auto detailing, window tinting, a pool service, and house cleaning. Oh, they accumulate junk too. They will pay you to haul the junk off.
How far you take this secret is up to you. Maintaining just a few of these homes could be a full time job. Now lets clarify something. I am not advocating that you be a jack of all trades and a master of none. Rather focus on the specific niche or area of service that best fits your skill set. Be it landscaping, lawn care, auto detailing, or house cleaning. Whatever area you are interested in and can provide good service.
To break in to this group of customers, advertise on Angieslist or Home Advisor. It may take a while to get into the neighborhoods with the million dollar homes, but when you finally get there make sure you have solid branding.
What is branding?
For this application branding means having a method to communicate who you are to the community where you are performing the work. In other words let everyone passing by know who are and your contact information. You do not have to go door to door. Instead have sign on whatever vehicle or trailer that you use. T-shirts and business cards are a good idea. Be approachable because the neighbors will be curious. Remember they probably need your service too. All requests for quotes from the client’s neighbors should be scheduled after you have finished your current job. This is important because you are being paid for a job and you are going to give the paying customer your full attention. A satisfied customer not only pays well, but they will give you repeat business, referrals, and five star reviews. This kind of clientele likes to boast about what they are having done. A good job for them will result in a recommendation of your service to their friends and family. As always make your service hassle free, offer multiple forms of payments, and make money doing great job.
