Window cleaning is a service that I used to pay for at my store front and it could be your next side hustle. The guy who used to clean my windows only washed the street level or first story windows. He carried with him a bucket, concentrated chemical packs, a window scrubber, and squeegee. I provided the water and step stool if needed. I had a 50 foot by 75 foot, corner store front, with windows on two sides. To clean just the outside of my windows he charged twenty dollars. He was finished in about thirty minutes.
Once in a while I would have him clean the inside windows, but this was not often because I would have to rearrange my store fixtures while he was cleaning the inside windows. In the city, the outside windows really need cleaning often because exhaust from the traffic and city buses. The window cleaning guy was always paid cash and he always gave me a receipt for his services. The receipt had two functions. The first was so I could a copy of the transaction for the register, but the main function was so I had his name and number for repeat business. I usually had my windows cleaned either once a week or once every two weeks depending on the weather or my schedule.
What amazed me about the window cleaning guy was that not only was he cleaning windows block by block throughout the city, but he would also do gig labor deals with construction companies as new buildings opened up. Now he did not clean the windows on sky scrapers, but he did clean store front windows in the malls, and strip centers. How far you take this side hustle is up to you. This side hustle has a very low cost startup cost which means you can start making money right away. Another benefit that comes with this business is that you get to meet the different business owners and managers throughout the city which means you get to network.
As always give your customer the best possible service and make cleaning their windows hassle free. One way to achieve this is by setting up a routine scheduled cleaning. This makes it easier for the customer and makes more efficient use of your time by allowing you to work block by block through out the city too. I would also advise confirming appointments the day before as another added layer convenience to the owner operator of the establishment and if for some reason the schedule needs to be changed, then you have not wasted your time.
