Soft washing a house

Washing houses, decks, and driveways is a great way to generate income with your pressure washer. Before we get started lets point out that drive ways and decks require high pressure, while a house will need high volume, low pressure and chemicals.

Before and After

For decks and driveways you will want to use a surface cleaner. A surface cleaner is a piece of equipment that looks like floor buffer, but works with the pressure washer to clean the surface. This piece of equipment will reduce the time and labor required to complete the job.

To soft washer a house you will need a pressure washer with at least 4 gpm (gallons per minute). Make sure your pressure washer is equipped with a pickup tube to allow the use of chemicals and multiple nozzle tips. You will need to change the nozzles out as you move up and down the side of the house. Remember to apply the chemicals from the bottom of the house to the top of the house. Allow the chemicals to set for the recommended time and rinse the house from top to bottom. Use the time while chemicals are setting to rinse the foundation if needed.

Pressure washer DIY mounted on trailer with chemical tank

Soft washing a house with chemicals and low pressure will reduce then need for a ladder, because most of the work can be accomplished from the ground. The most basic equipment needed for soft washing a house is a pressure washer as discussed earlier. If you prefer you can remove it from the stand and mount it to a truck or trailer. Next you will need a tank for chemicals. This can be as simple as a six gallon plastic drum. You will need a hose and hose reel too. The option for a ladder is depending on the roof contour of the house and whether you have access to all sides from the ground.

Now that have the equipment lets talk about customers. First, make sure that you have multiple forms of payment available. Next use social media such as Facebook Ads that are targeted in the local market. In the ad, provide a hook, to get the customer’s attention. Next show them a before and after photo. Lastly, include a call to action to click on the ad to contact you. This same technique can be include on Angie’s List, Home Advisor, and Craig’s List. After the job is complete ask the customer to give you review on your website or social media page. This is important, because referrals are a powerful tool to grow your business.
